When he was not solving the mysteries of black holes, as well as revolutionizing theoretical science, Stephen Hawking spoke about how the world is going to end.
From Terminator-style robots that were taking over to Donald Trump, these are some of the late scientist’s most terrifying doomsday predictions.
The Earth is going to turn into a giant fireball.
Last July, Hawking warned that humanity is at a “tipping point.”
He also added that global warming would cause the Earth to become like the planet Venus, with a global temperature of 482 degrees Fahrenheit and sulphuric acid raining from the sky.
He also told a gathering of scientists in Beijing, China the following:
“By the year 2600, the population of the world would be standing shoulder to shoulder, and the electricity consumption would make the Earth glow red-hot.”
Hawking predicted that our best bet is to leave the Earth entirely.
The AI apocalypse is going to see robots replacing humans.
Facebook and Google are obsessed with artificial intelligence, but Hawking did not trust it one bit.
He also claimed that it could be the worst invention of the history of civilization.
Speaking to the Wired UK, he said: “I fear that AI may replace humans altogether. If people design computer viruses, someone is going to design AI which improves and replaces itself. This is going to be a new form of life which outperforms humans.”
Nuclear war could kill us all.
When Hawking was asked what human trait he would like to change, he replied: “Aggression.”
He also said that it could lead to irrational behavior, like sparking nuclear war, as well as ending the world. He told BBC, as part of his 75th birthday celebrations:
“There is no sign of conflict lessening the development of militarized technology, as well as weapons of mass destruction could make that disastrous. This best hope for the survival of the human race may also be independent colonies in space.”
We also need to get busy finding some other planet.
Fearing that our planet is going to become overpopulated, Hawking also predicted that humans are going to leave the Earth and repopulate somewhere else.
In one documentary which was titled “Stephen Hawking: Expedition New Earth,” Hawking also warned that if humans do not become a multi-planetary species and settle on other worlds, we could die out in the next century.
Trump is going to shove the Earth over the brink.
Hawking was not a fan of Donald Trump.
When the president announced his decision to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement to reduce CO2 levels, Hawking also became among his most outspoken opponents.
Speaking to the BBC, he said:
“By…pulling out of the Paris Climate Agreement, Donald Trump is going to cause avoidable environmental damage to our beautiful planet, endangering the natural world, for us, as well as for our children.”
