Fransisco Soujouel, a Guatemalan photographer, loves to capture unique moments that catch his eye at a glance. He is well renowned for his fantastic landscape, adventure, and astrophotography, including the night sky and his admiration for live volcanoes.
He grew up in a place as magical as Lake Atitlán, Guatemala, which has given him an appreciation for nature that he always carries with him. Living on a lake surrounded by vegetation and wildlife has allowed him to capture unique moments throughout his career.
The picturesque landscape that surrounds him captivates him to dedicate himself and specialize in landscape and night photography, where his goal is to capture the same scene with a drastic change in light caused by the sun, the stars, and the moon. In social networks, he shows how his experience is on each trip and the perspective of life in nature.
In 2019, he was camped by the Acetenago Volcano on Christmas Eve when he witnessed a rare sight of the moon surrounded by a ring of clouds. It looked like Saturn in disguise. Soujouel managed to take some shots, and according to these images, it looked like a picture-perfect image with the moon in the landscape that was surrounded by the clouds and right below the sky, the delineation of Pacaya Volcano and the Guatemalan highlands added beauty to the image.
The scientific explanation towards this ring of clouds was formed by a cirrostratus cloud made of ice crystals that created a halo-like image from every angle.
His specific works on nature aim to convey the beauty, variety of colors, and natural compositions.
“I discovered a magic in the sound of wildlife.”
“I discovered an infinite beauty in fauna.”
“I discovered the pleasure of enjoying the sunrise and sunset.”
“I discovered that the night has a mystery that most are lost while they sleep.”
” I discovered the afternoons with culumbus clouds are full of magic.”
” I discovered the excitement of equipping a backpack and going on a trip to the volcanoes.”
