5 Facts that might will prove that you are not losing your sanity

1. Memory loss

You don’t know where you have parked your car, where you have placed your keys and can’t remember names.
Memory loss is directly linked to stress, grief, lack of sleep, menopause and depression.

Memory problems that are normal:

  • Forgetting what you were about to do.
  • Taking several minutes to recall where you have put your keys or where you parked your car.
  • Forgetting to return a call
  • Remembering names of people especially not close to you.
  • Briefly forgetting the name of a place or the word of something.

Why does this happen? Your brain is programmed to keep relevant information and discard unimportant information. According to Dr. Oliver Cockerell, a consultant neurologist at The London Clinic, your short-term memory is easily distractible.

Memory problems that might be worth further investigation:

  • Incidents whereby you can’t find your keys or vehicle on a regular basis.
  • Regularly forgetting the names of close relatives and friends.
  • Telling the same story or repeating the same question.
  • Multi-tasking of regular tasks becomes difficult.
  • An extrovert is becoming an introvert.

Be warned this might be early signs of Alzheimer’s or dementia and not just a sign of lack of concentration.

  • Not recognizing friends and family.
  • Everyday tasks cannot be done due to memory loss.
