Manny Pacquiao recognized as one of the Heroes of Philanthropy

Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao a professional boxer, nicknamed Pac-Man, world-famous for winning various titles in more weight classes than any other boxer in history.

Due to extreme poverty, Manny Pacquiao dropped out of high school and only completed his elementary education at Saavedra Saway Elementary School in General Santos City. At the age of 14, Manny Pacquiao left his home to support his mother and five siblings. There are also talks that he ran away from home after his father ate his dog. Living on the street, he bought doughnuts and sold them for a nickel more, to survive. According to him, he slept on cardboard boxes.

Manny Pacquiao made his debut as a junior flyweight at the age of 16.

The following years he won the following fights:

• World Boxing Association (WBA)
• IBF featherweight titles
• The Ring’s junior lightweight titles
• WBC lightweight title.

Manny Pacquiao was never quite known for his kindness as he initially did not announce his plans as it is not in his nature to brag about his humanitarian efforts to give to the less fortunate. The man is known as warm-hearted, and a man of his people built 1000 homes for his constituents in the Sarangani Province. He has been buying hectares of land building two-bedroom houses made from concrete with electricity and water connections and gave it to the poor for free.

The $100 million he received in the fight he lost against Floyd Mayweather, the fight of the century, was used to fund the housing program. After this fight, he wrote on Twitter that he would never forget his origin and he is grateful that God has blessed him so much that he’s in the position to help other people.

There are an estimated 103 million people living in the Philippines. Government statistics showed that 26 million Filipino were poor whereas 12 million were living in extreme poverty.

Manny Pacquiao is also known for supporting hospitals by paying the bills, sponsoring scholarship programs and medical missions and he always opened his house for people seeking help and provided financial assistance. He also built a boxing gym for up and coming boxers.

Manny Pacquiao went further with his generosity by building a huge orphanage in Malungon, Sarangani in the Philippines for kids of all ages pledging to visit the orphanage frequently to show his love to the kids but also to stress the importance of God.

Boxing and politics are not his only talents as he also played basketball for the professional Philippine team Kia Sorento, he also produced television shows, CD’s and starred in movies. The Philippine Postal Corporation in support of him released special postage stamps to show their support.

Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao went from a Pauper to a Senator of the Philippines. He fought his way through all the hardship to become the man he is today.
