The Blue Java, otherwise known as the Ice Cream banana or the Hawaiian banana. This sweet aromatic fruit, is said to taste just like ice cream vanilla. They are creamier and fluffier than your typical Chiquita banana. Blue Javas reportedly melt in your mouth and have a flavor reminiscent of vanilla bean.
The Blue Java bananas originated in Southeast Asia and are common throughout the Hawaiian islands.

The Blue Java is a triploid (ABB) hybrid of the seeded banana Musa balbisiana and Musa acuminata, which can grow up to a height of 4.5 to 6 meters. They can tolerate the cold and the wind. The leaves are a silvery green color. They bloom approximately 15 to 24 months after planting and can be harvested in roughly 115 to 150 days.
The fruit bunches are small, and when ripe, the blue peels turn a pale yellow with creamy white flesh.
Blue Java is hard to find, yet they are pretty easy to grow, and they produce fruit fast. They also make beautiful ornamentals, with big red flowers and silvery blue leaves.
