8 Lessons From Mahatma Gandhi

Spread the word

Mahatma Gandhi has been an inspiration for decades, since his form of peaceful revolution in India in the 1940’s. However his voice reaches beyonds political activism and speaks to every individual’s heart about how to strive to be a better person and improve the world around them. Check out the collection of quotes we have by him that we believe inspire us to be better people, and we hope do the same for you!

1. “Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.”

While it can be nice to have some big muscles, your strength doesn’t really come from how much you can bench press. It certain has its moments, but that doesn’t matter unless you have the conviction to see the the fruits of your labor and reach your goals despite whatever obstacles lie in your path!

2. “Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.”

Be true to what you want, and who you are. It’s easy to put on a face and say you’re happy with a situation that you might actually dread, we’ve all practiced it, just don’t make it a habit for life. Don’t settle, don’t compromise, stay true to your dreams and go for what you want. You’re the only one who knows what can make you happy, and you’re also the only one who can fight for it!

3. “Satisfaction lies in the effort, not in the attainment, full effort is full victory.”

How often are you satisfied with anything less than your best? Sometimes you don’t need to give it your all, you might only need to give half of your all and you can still finish, no big deal. Although that can be the case, not many people are remembered for “just finishing”, the people that are remembered are those that have the drive to give it their all, every time, and feel what it means to really win.

4. “Nobody can hurt me without my permission.”

The number one defense you have against anybody who wants to wrong you is always you. You are the one who controls who and what is in your life, as well as how they treat you. Make sure you are being treated only the way you want to be treated, nobody can push you around unless you allow them to!

5. “An eye for eye only ends up making the whole world blind.”

While it can seem like a good idea at the time, revenge doesn’t ever stop with just once. Without the ability to let go of the past, the world would be in a constant timeline of acts of revenge. While some might say that is how our history is, it also those same people that change it, just like you! By letting go, you not only encourage a safer world, but you help show others that letting go is not weak, it is much stronger than any revenge.

6. “I do not want to foresee the future. I am concerned with taking care of the present. God has given me no control over the moment following.”

Live in the moment. Tomorrow will still be there, tomorrow. And the day after that you will have another tomorrow! While there might be a specific tomorrow you are waiting for, there are an unquantifiable amount of tomorrows! However there is only one today, and you need to give it your full attention. Without stopping to enjoy the days that you live in currently, you’ll never understand how to enjoy “tomorrow” when it comes.

7. “It is unwise to be too sure of one’s own wisdom. It is healthy to be reminded that the strongest might weaken and the wisest might err.”

Regardless of what you believe, or what others say, everybody has weakness. It is important to realize that you are one of those people that has weakness, whether it’s just a moment of bad decision making or a constant trend, you’re not the only one that might have these problems. In addition, the people you might admire most are also just as likely to make mistakes as you are, it’s essential to remember that you’re human in order to live a productive life.

8. “First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.”

Persistence is key, always. Some people might not take you seriously yet, but as long as you keep trying to prove who you are, and stay determined, that will change. There have been many dreamers that have been told that they’ll never make it, if they can prove everyone wrong, why not you?
